Worries are over; Ukai dam over 90% full thanks to unexpected rainfall in October
October 09, 2016
Surat: Heavy rain during Navratri period has benefited many dams across Gujarat. Ukai dam in South Gujarat which is crucial for drinking and irrigation water supply to Surat city and district areas has been now over 90% full. Whie high-alert level of 340.84 ft was crossed couple of days back, the level is likely to go above 343 ft today due to continuous inflow from catchment areas on upper side. If water level goes above 345 ft, surplus water will be released to downstream areas. Before October, the monsoon season was believed over, and therefore there was worry about not-so-good water level at Ukai this year. However unexpected rainfall in October has resolved the issue.
