Congress to repeat all its sitting MLAs as candidates in Gujarat assembly polls: Solanki

Ahmedabad: The Congress High Command has decided to repeat all its sitting MLA’s in Gujarat as candidates in this year’s assembly polls in the state.

Gujarat Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki, who returned here today after a meeting with party’s national vice president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi informed media persons at the airport.

He said that the high command has put its seal on the decision to repeat all the 57 MLA’s as candidates.

Solanki said that the state election committee of the party was also likely to be formed soon.

He said that Gujarat in-charge of the party Ashok Gehlot would come to Ahmedabad on June 9 and hold meetings to chalk out election strategies. Various office bearers of the party would also be handed over related responsibilities.

Solanki said that the party was confident of getting 2/3rd majority and he had held discussion about its strategy with Rahul Gandhi.

Solanki had earlier said that the party would announce the first list of its 40 to 50 candidates by the end of June. All the 182 candidates would be annouced in 3 phases rather than at one go.

Notably, the then in-charge of Gujarat, Gurudas Kamath had said that the party tickets would be finalized by December 2016 to give the candidates around a year’s time for the preparation for the polls due to be held by the end of 2017. But the party could not do it even after the passage of around six months since the passage of that deadline.
