Rupani hails SC verdict on triple talaq, terms it historic
August 22, 2017
Ahmedabad: Hailing the Supreme Court verdict on triple talaq Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani today said that it was a very good and historic decision which would go a long way in saving the Muslim women from this evil practice.
Talking to newsmen at Bhayla soon after the pronouncement of the verdict of the constitution bench of the apex court banning the practice for 6 months and asking the government to make a new law, Rupani said Congress party governments in the past had not cared for such evils owing to vote bank politics based on appeasement.
The then Congress government led by Rajiv Gandhi had taken a wrong step by reverting the SC judgement in Shahbano case, he said alleging that Congress never cared about the woes of the Muslim women only for vote bank politics.
Today’s verdict was a very good one which would save Muslim women from the suffering caused by mere verbal uttering of talaq thrice.
