Surat to seek land from State govt for Zero Slum City project
February 28, 2018
Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) plans to seek more land from the State government to build housing for slum dwellers in order to achieve the zero slum city status.
SMC has so far built housing colonies for slum dwellers in Kosad and Bhestan areas spending its own land and cut down the number of slum pockets in the city from 150 to 47.
SMC will need more land to shift the 47 existing slum pockets for which it is not ready to sacrifice its own land anymore. Shifting of existing slums will be possible through Public Private Partnership(PPP) mode only if the State government is ready to give land.
