Gujarat govt launches Pocket Cop ProjectApril 16, 2018
Gandhinagar: The government of Gujarat today launched Pocket Cop Project under which 4,900 smart mobile phones with mobile internet connectivity will be handed over to investigating officers.
Investigating officers will get the data of all accused on a click through smart phone. The smart phone will have four data-rich applications loaded for passport verification, search of criminals, missing persons and stolen vehicles.
Data of 68 lakh criminals has been stored in the application.
Pilot project of Pocket Cop has been successful in Ahmedabad Rural and Gandhinagar, following which it has been launched state-wide.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja distributed smart phones to cops in a function held in capital Gandhinagar today.
Citizens will not need to visit the police station for police verification. The applications received from Passport office will be sent online to concerned police stations by district police superintendent offices after going through the criminal records from the database of all police stations across the state. A cop on passport verification duty will visit the place of applicant and do police verification through mobile application. As the application has mobile GPS facility on, the residential proof will also get checked. Applicant’s residential proof, photo, ID card and two witnesses’ statement will also be scanned at the place itself and get uploaded through mobile application online. It will be sent to respective district police superintendent office online. This will make it possible to complete the police verification process at citizen’s own place. The entire process will take around 7-day period. Citizens will not need to visit the police station.
Till now, police needed to take suspect to police station to go through the EGujCop data. But now, with the use of of Pocket Cop, policeman will be able to check that anywhere. The whole database will be on his/her fingertips.
Missing person search:
When dead body or missing child/person complaint is received, police man needs to go to the police station to go through the EGujCop data. This was causing delay. Now the identification of dead body or missing/found person would be identified on the spot through Pocket Cop.
Even in the case of missing/found vehicle, police men will not need to go to the police station to check the EGujCop data. They will be now able to use the Pocket Cop app and get the data on fingertips.
