Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) is employing huge human and machine strength this summer, spending crores of Rupees of fund to clean Kharicut canal which passes through the areas of Eastern parts of the city. The locals and others had made Kharicut canal a dustbin where every kind of garbage – be it liquid or solid can be dumped without fear. While massive cleaning drive is going on, some citizens still refuse to improve. They would throw garbage in canal, like it is dustbin. Tough dustbins have been put along side the canal, they would prefer to dump garbage in canal only. A vigilant health officer of AMC Harshad Solanki nabbed one such person red handed and compelled him to step down in canal and pick up the garbage he had thrown. The gentleman initially refused and argued it was AMC duty to pick up garbage and clean the canal. When told he could face even imprisonment for littering in canal, the gentleman agreed to pick up the garbage but, by employing other person for that job. As the AMC official didn’t give up, the gentleman stepped down in the canal and picked up the garbage. There’s another video clip too, in which one more person is seeing entering the canal to pick up coconut and other garbage he had thrown inside. AMC is installing CCTV cameras alongside the Kharicut canal to keep vigil on litterers. To divert, liquid discharge from nearby residential areas, the AMC is in process to purchase mini-sewage treatment plants.
