BJP snatches five district panchayats from Congress

Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has snatched five district panchayats from Congress due to defection/abstention of Congress members.

In Mahisagar district panchayat, Manjulaben Khant has been elected president while Kalawatiben Chauhan vice president. Both are from BJP. The district panchayat was earlier with Congress.

In Dahod, Yogeshbhai Pardhi and Indiraben Damor are elected as president and vice president of district panchayat respectively. Both are from BJP. The district panchayat was earlier with Congress.

In Ahmedabad, BJP’s Jitendrasinh Chauhan and Bhaviben Patel are elected as president and vice president of district panchayat. Congress had sent its members on tour to fail any attempt of defection of party’s elected members.

BJP’s Vaktuben Makwana and DK Gohil are elected as president and vice president respectively in Bhavnagar district panchayat.

In Patan, two Congress rebels Vinubhai Prajapti and Joytiben Thakor are supported by BJP for the posts of president and vice president of district panchayat respectively.

BJP has won 12 district panchayats and 104 taluka panchayats today of which 12 to 15 taluka panchayats have been snatched away from Congress, said state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani.
