Amul likely to launch camel milk by year-end, first marketing to be in Ahmedabad

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), the federation of 18 district dairies in the state, is likely to launch the ‘much-awaited’ camel milk for the first time by the end of this year.

GCCMF Managing Director R S Sodhi today said that the camel milk will be launched in Ahmedabad city first of all and then will be make available at other places.

He also said that camel milk chocolates launched earlier have given good results.

To a query he said that the camel milk plant being set up for the purpose Kutch district under the aegis of the Kutch District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd., Anjar also known as Sarhad Dairy, will take some time for completion.

‘The marketing plan has not yet been chalked out. The plant will take some time, may be around 3 to 4 months for completion and after that the camel milk would be launched. But whenever it is done, the first place for the launch would be Ahmedabad in 500 ml bottles,’ Sodhi said.

Earlier the Chairman of Sarhad Dairy Valamjibhai Humbal had told a Gujarati channel that the special plant for camel milk, the first one in the country, would start production in 3 months time. The collection of the camel milk was on since September last year and now around 1500 liter of such milk is collected on daily basis and sent to Chocolate plant in Anand.

He also claimed that the price of procurement of camel milk has doubled to Rs 50 a liter with the initiative and has helped camel owners a great deal. He said that the FSSAI clearance for sale of camel milk with many medicinal properties but low self life was taken way back in 2016.

The GCMMF had during launch of camel milk chocolates had highlighted the medicinal properties of the milk including its said-anti-diabetes properties.
