Christian Mission school Rakhi incident: Education minister seeks clarification

Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama has sought clarification in the alleged incident of cutting down of Rakhdis tied on the wrists of students in a reputed convent school in capital Gandhingar.

Chudasama said that though he has not received any direct complaint from any guardian in person yet the matter had come to his notice and he has in to the incident. The sought clarification from the school management. It has been asked to make side clear on the matter. Such incident was uncalled for and could hurt the religious sentiments. Once it became clear as to on whose order it was done, action would be taken in this regard.

Meanwhile a team of education department today visited the school in this regard.

On the other hand members of Hindu outfits and Akhil Bharitya Vidyarthi Parishad today held demonstration in front of the school.

Notably, close on heels of the controversial incident of barring of Hindu girls with Mehndi (henna) on hands from attending classes in a Central Gujarat convent school, teachers of another such school in capital Gandhingar yesterday allegedly cut down the Rakhdis tied on the hands of the students.

The incident allegedly took place in the reputed Mount Carmel School situated near sector 21 police station in the capital .

Students who were wearing Rakhdis tied on their wrists during recently concluded (It was on August 26), Raksha Bandhan festival were allegedly singled out by teachers of the school. They cut the Rakhdis with scissors and removed it.

Guardians of such students protested it. Earlier on August 1, angry guardians of the girl students of Queen of Angel Convent School in Bharuch had protested against management order barring the girls with Mehndi on hand (applied during Gaur Vrat) from attending the classes till it faded completely or was removed. The parents and members of Hindu outfits stormed the school and chanted Hanuman Chalisa there. Later the school apologized for it.
