September 21, 2018
Surat: The standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation today completed the formality regarding increase in salary of its corporators as per the decision of the state government to hike it for all the 8 municipal corporations in the state.
Mayor Jagdish Patel said that the formality has been completed in the light of the state government decision. It would make an almost three fold rise in the salary of 116 odd corporators from existing around 5000 pm to 150000 pm.
‘It will cause an extra burden of around Rs 1.25 crore on the exchequer of the local body which in comparison to its budget of around 5000 crore was a very small amount. The salary hike in all the municipal corporations have been made by the state government after 12 year,’ he said.
‘The salary of the 116 corporators of the 29 wards of SMC would still be less than that of many class 4 employees of the government,’ he said.
