Why don’t your government arrest Alpesh Thakor; media asks Rupani in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: When asked why Gujarat government is not arresting Congress leader and MLA Alpesh Thakor in connection with recent incidents in Gujarat in which non-Gujarati migrants were targeted, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani who is on two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh in his reply said legal process was going on and actions will be taken on the basis of whatever come out in the course of investigation.

Rupani said, ‘ it was well-planned conspiracy by Congress MLA as four state elections were scheduled, inauguration of Statue of Unity was scheduled.’

Rupani said, ‘attempt was made to break unity, but government failed the attempt. Today entire situation is in control.’

Regarding Alpesh Thakor, Rupani in his reply said, ‘We are looking into legality. Those who were out to do violence were arrested. Legality is being looked at regarding whatever (hate) speeches Alpesh delivered. Whatever come out on the basis of that, we will proceed accordingly.’

Rupani said it was Congress party’s attempt and irony was that Congress party’s incharge for Bihar unit(Alpesh Thakor) was speaking about kicking out Biharis from Gujarat.

Rupani said Rahul left the matter to one single tweet. He should take action against those from Congress involved.

‘In reply to Rahul’s one tweet, I posted three tweets and asked Congress to clear its stand and take action against partymen involved,’ Rupani said.

He said, ‘Non-Gujaratis living in Gujarat, whether they are from North India or South India have mixed with Gujaratis like sugar mixed with milk, it is a tradition of Gujarat that people live together. Non-Gujaratis have contributed to Gujarat’s development.’

Rupani said his government took timely action and arrested more than 700 of whom more than 50 were Congress people. For social media mischief, 60-70 were arrested of whom majority were again Congress people.

He said, there has been no incident of violence from many days, public life in Gujarat was normal, there had been none casualty or even a fracture injury.

Rupani said, government had taken strict action and proper security was provided to non-Gujaratis. He reiterated that security of all non-Gujaratis living in Gujarat was his government’s responsibility.
