Gujarat mandates fixed police security fees for cricket matches
July 07, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Home Department has issued a directive mandating that cricket tournament organizers, including the ICC and BCCI, pay for police security services. A fixed fee structure has been introduced due to the absence of a formal policy for recovering such charges, despite frequent police deployment during Test, One Day, T20, and IPL matches across the state.
As per the new policy, organizers will pay ₹25 lakh for Test and One Day matches and ₹10 lakh for T20 matches. They must also bear the cost of food packets, mineral water for the police personnel deployed for security, and set up control rooms if required. The charges will cover security arrangements both inside and outside the stadium. In cases requiring additional deployment due to specific threats, costs may rise by up to 25%. Equipment like scanners, barricades, and detectors will be arranged by the police. The full payment must be made within a month of the match; any delay will attract interest as per standard government norms. DeshGujarat
