K.S.P. Radhakrishnan appointed new Chief Justice of Gujarat

Justice Kalavamkodath Sivasankara Panicker Radhakrishnan, a chief justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, has been appointed as new Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.

Notification with regard to the appointment of new chief justice was issued by the President of India. The announcement by the Law and Justice Ministry said the transfer of KSP Radhakrishnan from J&K high court to Gujarat high court was ordered by President Pratibha Patil after consultation with J & K Governor N N Vohra and Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan.

Justice Radhakrishnan has been directed to assume charge of his office in the Gujarat HC within a fortnight, the announcement said.He will replace acting Chief Justice Mohit Shah.

Justice KSP Radhakrishnan was appointed as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir High Court on January 7, 2008.

Justice KSP Radhakrishnan has practiced in the High Court of Kerala and Subordinate Civil Courts at Ernakulam after obtaining Master’s Degree in Law (Administrative Law) from the Cochin University of Science and Technology and also Post graduate Diploma in Constitutional Law from ICPS, New Delhi.

He was a member of Faculty of Law, Cochin University of Science and Technology and Fellow of ICPS, New Delhi and functioned as Research Scholar under Dr SN Jain, Indian Law Institute, New Delhi.

Justice Radhakrishan has also worked as Standing Counsel for Cochin University of Science and Technology, State Bank of India, State Bank of Travancore, Kerala State Co-operative Rubber Marketing Federation and State Trading Corporation of India.

He was remained as Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court from 17-05-1995 till, January 16, 1996, when his appointment was confirmed as Permanent Judge.

He has also served as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala with effect from the March 19, 2005 till forenoon of April 27, 2005, and later from January 11, 2006 to January 22, 2006 F.N. and also from January 24, 2007. to May 17, 2007.

The new chief justice Gujarat, has also remained President, Kerala Judicial Academy, Chairman, Lakshadweep Legal Service Authority, Former Chancellor, National University of Legal Studies (NUALS), Executive Chairman, Indian Law Institute, Kerala Branch and Chairman, Governing Council, Indian Law Reports.
