BJP’s state wide Campaign for approval of GUJCOC(Gujarat Control of Organized Crime) act had some Muslim takers too in Ahmedabad on Saturday. A group of Muslims contributed their signatures on a long pro-GUJCOC banner. These Muslims had valid reasons and logic for why they were supporting approval of GUJCOC.

Talking to DeshGujarat, Kadarbhai Sheikh a Muslim who signed on pro-GUJCOC banner said “Terrorism is more dangerous for Muslims than for Hindus. Whole Muslim community feels shameful due to wrong doings of few bad people within.We firmly believe that strong actions should be taken against terrorists and fundamentalists. Muslims should overwhelmingly welcome a law like GUJCOC.”

Mohammad Ali who signed for pro-GUJCOC resolution said “Elements like Jama Mosque Imam of Delhi are more dangerous for our community than any other person. Those who take human lives can not be benefited in the name of human right. If we start thinking in terms of human right then what about human rights of those who were killed in Ahmedabad bomb blasts and Akshardham. What about human right of their families, widows, children, old parents? Ahmedabad blasts accused should be severely punished so that other educated children from our community can be prevented to go on such path. Muslims should be on streets to advocate and agitate for approval of GUJCOC and for death penalty to Afzal Guru.Muslims should be with government and with the police force.”

Gafurbhai another Muslim present at pro-GUJCOC demonstration said “Chief Minister Narendra Modi has publicly said that a terrorist has no religion. We Muslims should not express sympathy to those who are involved in terrorism and fundamentalism. They are not Muslims. We should expose bad apples from our community. We the Muslims are happier in Gujarat than in any part of India. GUJCOC would make safer Gujarat and safer Muslims. If Delhi based Congress and allies think that they would get sympathy of Muslims by not approving GUJCOC, then they are harming us.”

When asked about views on possible misuse of GUJCOC by the state, a young Muslim Yakub Saiyad from the group replied “There’s too much talk about possible misuse of GUJCOC but what about misuse of absence of GUJCOC? It is more dangerous. Isn’t it? You people did not witness horrifying scenes of 26th of July? Don’t you know, not a single person is sentenced in any bomb blasts case in recent years in India due to lack of strong law? Don’t you know that one person who planted a bomb that killed several people in Uttar Pradesh was sentenced just for 10 years jail due to weak law?”

Another young Muslim Hanif jumped in the discussion and said “After 9/11, some Muslims were attacked in different parts of United States. But after some time when U.S. came with a strict ‘Patriot Law’ there had been no single major terrorism related incident in U.S. in last 7 years. And because of such peaceful over all atmosphere, Muslims are safer in U.S. They are living peacefully there and everywhere. Same logic should be applied in India and Gujarat. Let there be a strict law and great police actions and let good Muslims support them. Let there be a no mercy for bad Muslims. There will be a permanent peace then after for every peace loving and law abiding citizen.”
