On Pakistan border,Modi tells centre to approve Deesa airstrip
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 3 January, 2009

After visiting Indo-Pak border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today visited Banaskantha district’s border with Pakistan. Modi went up to the international border pillars and addressed gathering of BSF jawans at border post-960, some 50 km away from the international border.

Modi discussed various security related issues with BSF in charge D.I.G. R.P.S.Malik and Battalion commandant Pushependrasingh Rathod in detail. Modi took a ride over patrolling camel. He offered sweets to Jawans. Jawans welcomed the Chief Minister with loud and energetic slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jay” and “Vande Mataram.” They also had group photographs with the Chief Minister. State Police Chief P.C.Pande and Chief Minister’s Principal Secratory K.Kailashnathan accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.

Addressing the BSF Jawans, Modi said “the state government is working on Rs 6 crore Narmada pipeline project to provide water for BSF jawans deployed inside the Rann. This project would be completed before March this year. The state government will sincerely try to set up the State Bank of India’s ATM and bank facilities at Suigam. A project would be initiated by the state government with the help of Dantivada Agriculture University to grow fresh and nutritious vegetables in the border area. Gujarat government will request the central government to provide telecommunication facility to Jawans deployed here. Gujarat government will also talk with the centre for strong road facility up to the Border Out Post No.960.”

“Even though all the security agencies are unanimously agree about need for an airstrip at North Gujarat’s Deesa, the central government has decided to develop an airstrip at Badmer. Deesa is situated at strategically important location between Badmer to Naliya, but the central government has dropped Deesa to select Badmer. The central government should rethink it’s decision and approve the Deesa Airstrip Project,” Modi said.

“In both 1965 and 1971 wars Pakistan was badly defeated. Now as Pakistan has no courage to fight against India openly, it has started a proxy war through infiltration of the terrorists to kill innocent people and jawans in India. Pakistan has already waged a war through Mumbai attack. Now it’s government of India’s tern to answer back either diplomatically or in a language that Pakistan understands. If not today, then tomorrow, Pakistan will have to answer for it’s sins for sure,” Modi said.

Modi also talked about how Indian jawans had liberated Pakistan’s Nagarparkar area in 1971 war and had ruled for almost one and half year there. Modi recalled how India’s clean administration in Nagarparkar had won hearts of the people living there.
