General Motors Chevrolet Cruise will roll out from Gujarat’s Halol

General Motors will produce Chevrolet Cruise cars at Halol plant in Gujarat in middle of this year, said Karl Slym, President and Managing Director of General Motors India talking to DeshGujarat at Ahmedabad. Karl was in city for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit, 2009.
“Chevrolet Cruise will be a mid-segment car with automatic transmission. We are planing for it’s launch in middle of this year. Halol plant is fully flexible and we are making some changes to facilitate production of Chevrolet Cruise.”
“Last year Halol plant produced 50,000 cars. Installed capacity of the plant is 85,000 cars yearly,” Karl said. He said that General Motors is in process of launching three cars this year including a premium mini car at the end of the year.
Talking about his Gujarat experience Karl said “General Motors is in Gujarat for last 12 years. We have not lost even a single day due to any issue. There is no union, there are no other hurdles. Government is very supportive. Once we had some issue and I called Chief Minister office and Chief Minister Narendra Modi immediately called me and helped us.”
Karl found gathering at Vibrant Gujarat Summit huge and interesting. He praised Chief Minister Modi for his pro-active, hard working and visionary approach for development of the state.
