The United States of America’s Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton will take home a corset top filled with Gujarati traditional handicraft work, a Gujarati handicraft jacket for her daughter Chelsia and a 60-year-old Gujarati ‘toran’ from this week’s India visit.

Hillary is going to meet about 20 rural handicraft artist women from northern Gujarat’s Patan and Kutch districts at Napean Sea Road based Hansiba store in Mumbai on Saturday. Hillary will view the collection here and interact with this group of women for about an hour.

The women working at Hansiba, have decided to gift a corset, full of Gujarati-American fusion traditional work, a traditional jacket and a 60-year-old decorative textile piece ‘toran’ to Hillary.

Hansiba is retail handicraft store run by the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), a non-government organisation founded by Elaben Bhatt. Hansiba’s annual turnover is Rs 5 core.

SEWA’s Bhatt — whom Clinton had earlier described as “her hero”, Reema Nanavaty and its general secretary Jyoti Macwan — will update Hillary on the progress and current status of Global Women’s Trade Finance Council. The council was founded in 2007 in New York with Clinton and Bhatt as co-chairpersons.

Clinton had first visited the SEWA headquarters, Ahmedabad in 1995 as the US First Lady. Her daughter Chelsia had also accompanied her.
