Surat to develop 10 theme based lakes

Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) is planning to develop ten lakes of the city on theme based parameters. Of this, five lakes will be developed in one year. While the other five will be developed in next three years.
The SMC has planned to develop Magdalla lake as the lake of adventures, Puna lake as the lake of five sense, Bhimrad lake as ‘lake of festival’, Budiya lake as ‘lake of wilderness’, Pal lake as ‘lake of Celebrating water’, Khadoj lake as ‘lake of art’, Dindoli lake as ‘lake of season’, Dumas lake as ‘lake of Expressing water’, Abhava lake as ‘lake of inspiration’ and Un lake as ‘Lake of Good health’.
The SMC will develop lakes as entertainment zones. Each of these lakes will be surrounded by gardens with food court, sports facilities, civic centre, art gallery etc.
The project to develop Magdalla, Bhimrad, Pal, Dindoli and Dumas lake has been started already at a cost of Rs 43.40 crore. SMC Commissioner S.Aparna has asked for state government’s grant for the project. The state government has assured to contribute 60% grant. While Magdalla lake would be developed at a cost of Rs 5.30 crore, Bhimrad would be developed at a cost of rs 20.63 crore, Pal-Rs 3.55 crore, Dindoli- Rs 6.58 crore and Dumas-Rs 6.3 crore. Pal lake will have laser show facility.
The city of Surat has one lake located at every one square km area. In total the city has 311 lakes.
