Amazing Surya Tilak in Koba Jain Mandir
Gandhinagar, DeshGujarat, 22 May, 2010
Even under scorching sun, hundreds of Jain devotees gathered at the Koba Mahavir Jain Aradhna Kendra on Saturday to witness the ‘Surya Tilak’ on the forhead of Lord Mahavir Swami’s murti.
‘Surya Tilak’ is a unique event in which sun rays appear on the forehead of Mahavir Swami, exactly at 2.07 pm on every 22nd of May. ‘Surya Tilak’ continues for three minutes. Due to extra amount of visitors, the Jain Mandir administration had arranged Close circuit video cameras this time to telecast the moments live.
“On May 22, Acharya Kailashsagar Suriswarji died in Koba Jain Aradhana Kendra. Since then Acharya Padmasagar Suriswarji pioneered to worship Lord Mahavir by Surya Tilak,” says Shrenikbhai Shah, trustee of Koba Jain Aradhana Kendra.
“Since 1987, every year the Surya Tilak happens exactly at 2.07 pm on 22nd May. Till date we don’t have seen clouds at this time obstructing sun rays,” Shri Shah added.
He also said that there is no magic, but such Sutya tilak has been made possible thanks to skillfully construction of Mandir with perfect use of mathamatics, astronomy and traditional knowledge of sculpture.
