Police capture 86 desi weapons after attack on India’s victory celebration
Veraval, 1 April, 2011

Gujarat’s Veraval Police on Thursday raided Meman Jamat’s Dela area and seized 86 desi weapons including 26 swords, 15 dhoka, 15 hockey sticks, 3 steel pipes, 1 sharp weapon mounted on stick and 2 fish cutting sharp tools.
Police raided this Muslim locality after Hindus celebrating India’s victory over Pakistan in ICC Cricket worldcup on Wednesday were attacked in the night in public by fanatic group of Muslims.
While thousands of youths were celebrating India’s victory over Pakistan in Tower chowk of Veraval on Wednesday night, a group of Muslims rushed there with desi weapons in hands and created terror. Police staff including the teams of State Reserve Police rushed to the spot to prevent any possible escalation in already tense situation.
After this incident, I.G. PRavin Sinha ordered strict checking in the area from where attackers had came with weapons. Following this In-charge S.P. Nilesh Zanzadia arrived in Veraval with additional force from outside and held a combing operation at Rajendra Bhuvan Road based Memna Jamat Dela shops from where 86 weapons including 26 swords were captured.
According to DySP Gohil, Police has registered arm act violation complaint in this case.
