Work for green belt along Narmada canal begins in north Gujarat

Sardar sarovar nigam has given a ‘Go Ahead’ signal to grow a lush green belt on the banks of the main canal of Narmada. 2, 16, 00 trees will be grown on the 185 Km long stretch from Kadi to Banaskatha.

According to the sources, the main canal of Narmada that flows through Mehsana and Patan district will have lush greenery on both sides. The green belt will be 8 meters away from the service roads on each side and will be spread across 135 hectares of land with a number of 1600 trees per hectare.

Sardar sarovar nigam has allocated Rs 263 lakh for the project. According to Aradhana Sahu of the forest conservation department of Mehsana that the processes for sowing the trees have already started by land digging. She also added that the trees have to be maintained only for a year. The place will be an ideal accommodation for the birds; the trees will help in eluding the floods during monsoon. The banks of the Narmada canal will don a green belt on a 185 Km stretch and this will also cause a change in the climate in the districts of Mehsana and Patan.

This project will be ready in no longer than 2 years. Soon enough the banks of the Narmada canal will be filled with lush greenery and the bliss of birds.
