Ahmedabad to host ‘India in Britain,1858-1950’ exhibition

British Library Ahmedabad in partnership with Open University will launch ‘Beyond the Frame’: India in Britain, 1858-1950 exhibition on Sunday 11 December 2011 at 6.00 pm.
Thie exhibition will remain open for public display will be at British Library between Sunday 11 December 2011 to Wednesday 21 December 2011.
‘Beyond the Frame:India in Britain, 1858-1950’ showcases the little-known, but long history of the Indian presence in Britain.
The material highlights only some of the many exchanges and encounters that took place on British soil from the period of the Raj to the early years of independence which include: domestic, cultural and intellectual life, resistance and activism, national and global politics, the arts and sport.
Profiling the influential contributions this early South Asian community made to Britain, the exhibition provides a different window on the history of India-British connection.
It thus tries to extend knowledge and enhance cultural understanding, engaging contemporary audiences with issues key to heritage and the shared histories of both nations.
