Thai Airways International will start a direct flight on Ahmedabad-Bangkok route from April 1, Thailand’s Ambassador to India Pisan Manawapat said on Saturday.
The Thai envoy said that this idea was proposed by the Gujarat government when in last May a meeting with the state government was held.
He said Thai airways through its subsidiary will start the first flight connecting Ahmedabad to Thailand directly from 1st April. The travelers will no more have to complete boarding in Mumbai or Delhi.
The Thai envoy said his government was ready to promote tourism for Gujarat in Thailand and he was ready to promote Gujarat among the Thai tourists whenever the Gujarat government decides.
Reacting to Thailand’s this decision, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his speech said that though the flight has been declared once in a week initially, they will need to increase its frequency to three time a week after three months of operations.
Shri Modi said that Gujarat has relics of Bhagawan Buddha, and countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand and Japan have influence of Budhism. Buddha can connect Gujarat to the Asian countries, he said.
