One side of Shastri Bridge in Ahmedabad to shut for repair work

Ahmedabad: The unrepaired side of the Shastri Bridge, which connects Narol to Vishala in the city, will be closed for major repairs in two days. The bridge spans the Sabarmati River, and the rehabilitation work will include repairs to the footpath on both sides, parapets, and the road. The work is expected to be completed by December 31.

During this period, a temporary divider will be set up on the newly repaired opposite side of the bridge that connects Vishala to Narol, and vehicles will be diverted through that side. The Vishala-to-Narol side of the bridge was reopened in October this year after being closed to traffic for 10 months since December 2023.

Executive Engineer of National Highways, D.R. Mistry, stated that instructions have been issued to complete the work before December 31. As work cannot be carried out while the bridge is open to traffic, it will be temporarily closed, and vehicles will be diverted through the opposite side. The agency handling the repair work has been instructed to minimize public inconvenience and ensure that the bridge is repaired quickly and reopened to the public. Since the repairs required on this side of the bridge are less extensive than on the opposite side, the repairs are expected to be completed sooner. DeshGujarat
