Ahmedabad, 10 December 2013
Ahmedabad police’s crime branch has given a report to state government recommending criminal case against Mumbai based Non Government Organization(NGO) operator Teesta Setalvad under section 406 and 420. The state government will forward this report to central government for actions as Foreign Contribution Regulation Act(FCRA) is under central government purview. Special Operation Group’s then ACP Ataript Sud has already communicated FCRA Director about misuse of foreign fund by Teesta’s NGO with evidences.
The case is about misuse of foreign fund received to build museum in Gulberg society and cheating with the residence of society. On receiving complaint by Gulberg society residents,SOG recovered documents pertaining to funding to Teesta’s NGO from Mumbai based Charity Commissioner office. SOG also received statements of four bank accounts of Teesta’s NGO.
In 2002 riots, Gulberg society was targeted by rioters. Those who survived the riot wanted to sell their properties. In 2007 Teesta suggested society members to give away their properties to Teesta’s NGO instead of selling them. According to society residents, Teesta promised to pay market price of properties which she didn’t pay till 2012.
Ferozkhan Pathan and other residents moved Crime branch with an application after which SOG was handed over probe. On 28 August 2013, SOG gave report to Joint Police Commissioner(Crime Branch) on irregularities found in Teesta’s NGO. City police commissioner had then forwarded report to state DGP.
