A 100-year old, 50 tonne tree was shifted and replanted successfully by the Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) and Prayas NGO with the help of giant crane specially called from Hazira industrial area.
While executing the town planning scheme in Althan village, SMC had to clear a giant tree which was obstructing the road. But instead of cutting the tree, the SMC contacted local NGO called Prayag and discussed possibilities of shifting it. Initially, as many as three cranes were called to execute the task, but they failed to shift this giant tree having 30 ft diameter size. Finally industrial heavy duty crane was called from Hazira where giant industrial units like Reliance, Essar, Shell, ONGC etc are located. After excavation of half a road and efforts of seven hours the giant tree was successfully shifted and replanted at SMC’s party plot. Earlier SMC had shifted and successfully planted a 20 tonne tree on Udhna-Magdalla road.
