Jayalalithaa expels Malaisamy

Chennai, 15 May, 2014

AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa today expelled former MP of her party K Malaisamy following his statements that she may like close ties with a possible Narendra Modi-led NDA government.

AIDMK statement said Malaisamy has been removed from the primary membership of AIADMK for violating party discipline and for bringing disrepute to its image.

K Malaisamy had on Wednesday said that since his boss and party supremo J Jayalalithaa and Narendra Modi were great friends, the Tamil Nadu chief minister would like to keep close ties with BJP if the Gujarat CM was appointed prime minister. “Modi is a great friend of Jayalalithaa. They may differ politically, but if he becomes PM then Madam would like close ties,” he said.

Jayalalithaa had also struck a cautious note, only saying that “this was not the time for any comments”. “I would prefer to wait for May 16 and the actual numbers,” she had told reporters in Chennai.

On the likelihood of her party supporting a Third Front, Jayalalithaa, whose AIADMK has been projected to win a majority of the 39 seats in the state by various exit polls, said “I cannot make any remark on any other subject.”
