Ahmedabad, 19 June, 2014
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today decalred the earlier conducted Gujarat Housing Board draw canceled. She took this decision after the execution agency behind the draw admitted shortcomings in computerized draw system.
Chief Minister herself had conducted a computerized draw in Rajkot last Sunday for allotment of 8,000 housing units. Live telecast of draw event was relayed in other cities where thousands of applicants had gathered.
The method of draw was questioned by large number of applicants next day, as they alleged that only those who applied online could get flat and those who physically submitted the forms faced injustice. Small groups of people protested against the draw at Gujarat Housing Board headquarters. They sought a new draw with more transparency.
On the other hand, the Gujarat Government sought report from the Gujarat Informatics Limited, a state government unit that had executed the draw through randomization software. After thorough check, GIL today admitted shortcomings in the process. As GIL has admitted its error, the Chief Minister today canceled the results of earlier draw. New date and method of draw will be announced later on.
