Vadodara, 19 August 2014
According to Forest Minister of Gujarat Shri Ganpat Vasava, Gir lions are not be translocated to Madhya Pradesh anytime soon. During his visit to Kevadia Colony in central Gujarat he briefly spoke to media persons and in reply to a question he said that the Supreme Court has formed a committee of experts which will study the modalities of shifting of lions as per IECL guidelines. Until the committee completes its study and takes decision in this regard, there’s no issue of shifting lions to Madhya Pradesh. The Minister further said that one NGO has filed plea in the Supreme Court on same issue which is another reason why shifting of lions is not likely to happen immidiately.
