Ahmedabad, 16 November 2014
Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel has adopted Narmada district panchayat’s Dumkhal block village Vandri under Saansad Adharsh Gram Yojana.
According to Gujarat Congress communication, Shri Ahmed Patel has taken a decision to adopt this village because it has very low literacy rate.
In 2011 Vandri’s literacy rate was 42.46% against Gujarat’s same rate of 78.03%. Literacy rate of women in this village is 29.58%.
Vandri has population of tribal people, some of whom were on strike recently to demand construction of roads.
People in this village are facing hardships due to lack of drinking water, health and toilet services. The village has less than 5% toilets and over 90% toilets constructed under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan scheme are not usable due to lack of water and other facilities.
Telephone network and banking are other services that are not available here. In monsoon, one can reach Vandri only on foot and that too after 10 km walk. The nearest bank branch is 45 km away and nearest post office is 12 km away.
