Surat: Gopi talav project likely to complete in February, Fort development works awarded

Development works at Surat city’s 204 years old historic Gopi Talav will be completed by February 2015.
Rs. 20 crore project involves 95,000 square meter area.
The project consists seven zones – diamond corner, textile zone, senior citizens, kids section, food corner and future zone.
About 80% of the project which covers ‘future zone’ will open to public by the end of February.
Future zone area will include I-max theater and snow park.
After completion of this project, Gopi Talav will become a reservoir with 1.5 crore liter water carrying capacity. Years old step-well will be another attraction here.
Fort development
A 400-year old historical fort at Chowk Bazar in Surat will be restored and developed as tourist spot at a cost of Rs. 18.75 crore by Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC). This project is part of SMC’s move to develop Heritage square at Chowk bazar. After fourth attempt, the SMC found agency for execution of this project. Mumbai based Savani construction which has experience of restoration of many historical buildings in Mumbai will develop this project. SMC has requested the state government to make allotment of fort area to SMC. The entire work involves scientific cleaning and also electric work worth Rs. 3.5 crore.
