Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today inaugurated India’s largest spinning unit under one roof by the Welspun Group in Kutch along with Union Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar.
She said, the spinning unit has been functional within one year of laying its foundation stone, which is an apt example of the speedy implementation of projects in Gujarat.
She further said the new spinning unit will facilitate Gujarat to meet its goal of setting up 2.5 million spindles in next 7 years.
Anandiben Patel said that owing to Gujarat Government’s textile industry friendly policy many textile industries are making investments in the state. To enhance this further, the state government would soon initiate positive measures for setting up a giant Textile Park in the Gujarat.
The Chief Minister in a praising tone said the plant would provide employment to over 3,000 local Kutchhi youths and has played a good role in fulfilling the dream ‘Make in India’, envisaged by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
Chief Minister congratulated the Welspun group for their corporate social responsibility activities including empowerment of women and specially-abled by giving them employment opportunities.
The company has invested Rs.800 crore to set up this facility as part of its overall Rs.2,500 crore expansion plan in the textiles business in Gujarat.
“It took us 13 months to set up this spinning mill. It will help us meet our internal yarn requirement,” said Welspun Group Chairman Balkrishna Goenka.
“This facility has capability to produce fine count yarn, and with this we can manufacture new range of products. With increased self sufficiency, better quality control and efficient supply chain, we will be able to move to the next level,” Mr. Goenka added.
One in seven towels sold in the U.S. is manufactured by Welspun, and the company supplies to 14 of the 30 global retailers, including Wal-Mart, JC Penney and Target.
