Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) will take responsibility of cleaning of Surat railway station from 1st April. Surat will thus become the first municipal corporation to take responsibility of cleaning of local railway station in entire India.
SMC has made announcement on this in its draft budget presented by municipal commissioner on Wednesday.
It should be mentioned here that city mayor had last year visited Delhi and made proposal in this regard. Railway ministry officials were surprised to see local civic body’s willingness to take responsibility of cleaning the railway station.
While SMC has already declared that it will start cleaning the railway station from 1st April, the railway ministry will declare the same in its annual budget likely to be presented next month.
Surat Mayor believes that railway station is the first place to connect outsider with city, and first impression must be good. Dirty railway station gives bad impression to city, and more important point is that it is not hygienic.
It should be also noted that reconstruction of Surat railway station on public private partnership model has been proposed by the SMC. MoU in this regard is likely to be inked during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit this week in Gandhinagar.
