Gujarat wants Centre to hand over Keshod and Deesa airports

Gujarat government today asked centre to hand over operations of two airports to the state government. These two airports are Deesa and Keshod.
While Deesa is situated in north Gujarat and it is closer to tourist/pilgrim place Ambaji, Keshod is situated in tourism-rich belt of southern Saurashtra close to Somnath, Diu and Gir lion sanctuary.
These two airports are presently under the Airport Authority of India(AAI). Gujarat government wants to take over these two airports to boost intra-state aviation.
Civil Aviation Minister of Gujarat, Shri Saurabh Patel raised this issue with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajpati Raju today who was in Ahmedabad today to attend a review meeting on civil aviation department related issues pertaining to Gujarat.
Patel also demanded development of two international airports in Gujarat. He said centre has given positive response to this demand.
Union Minister Raju said Gujarat has excellent potential for development in Civil Aviation sector. He said the centre will develop traffic, cargo and airport facilities.
Ahmedabad Collector, Chamber of Commerce president, FICCI and Civil Aviation department representatives attended this meeting.
