New Delhi
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today in his budget speech announced new All India Institute of Medical Sciences in five states. Gujarat is not among them.
“Madam Speaker in the budget speech of July I indicated my intention to provide one major central institution to each state,” Jaitley said but added that, “if someone is left, we will consider even after budget during the year.”
He said, “In this year, I propose to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Assam.”
He further said, “keeping in view the need to augment medical services in Bihar where there’s already one AIIMS, I propose to set up another AIIMS there.”
It should be mentioned that in his July 2014 budget speech Jaitley had announced AIIMS in each state. Later on central government’s demand, Gujarat government had shortlisted Rajkot and Vadodara for new AIIMS. Even land has been finalized and central government teams have visited both pieces of land.
Nitin Patel replies
State Health Minister Shri Nitin Patel asked Gujarat not to worry about plan to set up AIIMS in Gujarat as the government according to him has allotted budget for AIIMS in Gujarat in its budget last year in July.
