The district collector here has initiated a drive to link Aadhar card numbers with Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) of around 50.26 lakh voters under the Election Commissioner’s National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme here today.
“Under the National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme, the Election Commissioner has decided to merge details of Aadhar card and EPIC to rectify errors like duplication of names, mistakes in names, or photographs of voters. The district collectorate initiated the drive under the same programme today,” Ahmedabad Collector Rajkumar Beniwal told reporters here.
Voters may go online and fill up details of their Aadhar cards and EPIC on the website of Election Commission of India or on the state election commission’s website, Beniwal said.
“Voters may also send an SMS to the number 51696, putting the EPIC number and a space after their Aadhar card number, as well as get guidance from toll free number 1950,” he said.
Voters may submit their EPIC and Aadhar card details at Matdar Suvidha Kendra, e-Gram Kendra and Jan Seva Kendra at taluka centres, Beniwal said.
“Apart from this, we will also launch a special drive on April 12, where booth level officers will accept forms from people who wish to submit the form comprising details of Aadhar card and EPIC,” he said.
Booth level officers would then initiate a door-to-door campaign from April 16 to June 15 to press this drive further, he said.
Beniwal said that the district administration would like to finish the drive before July 31 this year and made an appeal for people to come forward to fill up their details through the online system so that there would be least chance of any error.
When asked about the process of providing Aadhar cards to the people of Ahmedabad district, Beniwal said that around 66 per cent of the process has been completed so far.
