Surat

The NDA government has given a nod to set up 20 new Integrated Textile Parks in seven months, taking the total number of such parks to 70, Minister of State Santosh Gangwar said here today.

“Around 20 parks under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) have been approved during the previous seven months, bringing the total number of approved parks to 70.

“After being operational, these parks are expected to attract investment of Rs 30,000 crores and generate employment for 11,00,000 people,” Gangwar said here on the final day of a two-day national workshop organised by the Union Textiles Ministry.

“The union government plans to set up eight to ten more parks in the 12th Five Year Plan. These parks will be catalytic in realising the Prime Minister’s ‘Make-in-India’ programme,” Gangwar said.

Gangwar said that SITP aims to provide infrastructure support which is critical to make textile manufacturing globally competitive.

Minister of Commerce and Industry of Manipur Govindas Konthoujam, who was also present at the event today, said that a road corridor has been proposed from Moreh in Manipur to Mandalay in Myanmar and then to Thailand which would provide Indian textiles better access to the South East Asian market.

Konthoujam said Manipur government would provide all necessary support and secure conditions for textile investors in Manipur.
