Lion census, 2015 kicks off today

Census of lions kicks off today in six district of Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The process will involve 2,200 volunteers, forest department employees and others. Counting will take place in 8 regions. Counting of lions takes place once in five years. In 2010, there were 411 lions. This time counting is going to take place in double the area compared to previous counting of year 2010. Lion sanctuary and safari park are closed for visitors during the counting process which is going to take place during 1-5 May. Even vehicular transportation including transportation of government run State Transport buses has been banned during this period.
