Gujarat CM attends Chief Ministers sub- group meeting in Chhattisgarh

Gujarat Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel today attended sub-group meeting held in Chhattisgarh where she presented the success achieved by Gujarat in various schemes and skill development sector.

The meeting discussed various aspects related to promotion of skill development and creation of skilled manpower within the states. The sub-committee suggested various recommendations and proposed draft policy to NITI Aayog to fulfill manpower requirements in Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision – ‘Make in India’, the Skill Development Mission to be included under NITI Aayog.

Chief Ministers of Chhattisgarh and Punjab among other states also attended this meeting where Mrs. Patel briefed them about the experiments performed in Gujarat for unorganized sectors’ craftsmen to provide proficiency in their traditional professions. She said that skill development could be achieved through various initiatives. Our initiatives range from ITIs on PPP mode to Centres of Excellence, Craft Clusters and PM-award winning Kaushalya Vardhan Kendras. She also stated that we not only impart core-skills & soft-skills training, but also ensure job placements to youth, men & women across rural & urban Gujarat. She also shared government initiatives such as Rakhi Mela and Kutir Udyog Mela for selling the products of the handicraft craftsmen.

Mrs. Patel said that recently we have signed MOUs with China on Skill Development sector. Giving the brief details of the Gujarat model of skilling, the Mrs. Patel shared that the state government has developed close ties for skilling with industries like Tata Motors, Pidilite, L&T, Siemens, etc. She also described the concept of flexi MOU adopted by Gujarat for need based training in major industries. She also discussed about Industrial Kaushalya Vardhan Kendra (i-KVK) where the industry itself trains and prepares required manpower. Mrs. Patel briefed about the unique attempts of her government for empowerment of urban poor such as UMMID, Scope, eMPOWER and for distance learning facilities through a satellite channel BISAG.

Principal Secretary of Labour and Employment Department Mr. Sanjay Prasad, Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Ajay Bhadu and senior officials of Gujarat also were present in the sub-group committee meeting.
