Bandh by BJP affects normal life in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar

Normal life was affected in the Arunachal Pradesh capital today in the dawn-to-dusk bandh called by Jan Andolon Committee (JAC) of BJP’s state unit demanding resignation of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for alleged financial management.

All education institutions, financial institutions, markets and central government establishments remained closed and private and public vehicles remained off the road.

A few state transport department buses were seen plying with escort.

The state government had declared the bandh illegal and cautioned the employees to attend their offices or face disciplinary action.

However, attendance in government offices was thin.

There was no report of violence from anywhere but police detained about 15 bandh enforcers, Superintendent of Police Seiju P Kuruvilla informed.

Besides resignation of the CM, the JAC in a memorandum to state governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa earlier this month also demanded that he recommend imposition of President Rule and financial emergency in the state.
