Mozambique moots strong economic partnership with India

On a visit to India, Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi today he aims to establish a strong economic partnership with India.
“This is my first visit to Asia after I took over as president of the Republic of Mozambique six months ago. I decided to visit India first in Asia, since we intend to have a strong economic partnership with India,” Nyusi said.
“This is the 40th year of independence of Mozambique and also the 40th year of establishment of our diplomatic relationship. The Indian government was one of the first to recognise us,” President Nyusi, who is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), told reporters here.
“Yesterday, I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi where we discussed issues of bilateral co-operation,” he said.
“We discussed possibilities of exploring huge gas reserves from Mozambique as well as exploring coal deposits.
We discussed possibilities of investments in agriculture and agri-business,” he added.
Nyusi, who is on a five day visit to India, will spend two days in Gujarat. He started his Gujarat journey by visiting facilities of Arvind Mill, the largest producer of denim fabric.
Later, he met Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel in Gandhinagar and expressed his keen interest to learn best practices in agricultural production, port development, education as well as skill development.
“I have come to Gujarat since it is considered to be a very powerful state. I visited a textile factory today and tomorrow I will visit the Anand Agriculture University,” Nyusi said.
He also addressed a meeting organised by the Indo-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he urged Indian investors to explore sectors like gas, coal mining and agri-business as well as invest in infrastructure development of his country.
