NCP to contest Gujarat local polls in alliance with Congress

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today said that it would contest the upcoming local body polls in Gujarat in alliance with the main opposition Congress.

NCP state president Jayant Patel said he had talks with congress state president Bharatsinh Solanki, state in-charge Gurudas Kamat and leader of opposition in the state assembly Shankarsinh Vaghela today in this regard and a formula for seat sharing and other modalities is likely to be finalized till late night or tomorrow.

‘We have contested the assembly and parliamentary elections together and will go for the November 22 and 29 local body polls in alliance with Congress to prevent the division of secular votes,’ he said.

The NCP has only 2 MLAs in the state assembly.

Elections in the six municipal corporations of the state would take place in the first phase while that in the 31 district panchayats, 56 municipalities and 230 taluka panchayats would be held in the second phase.
