November 14, 2015
London
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today while speaking at Wembley Stadium in London announced direct flight between Ahmedabad and London from December 15 this year.
Shri Modi’s this announcement was overwhelmingly welcomed by Indian community gathered in this stadium with loud cheer.
Shri Modi said when he was a Chief Minister and Atal Bihari Vajapayee was Prime Minister, the demand for a direct flight between Ahmedabad and London was accepted and flight was started, but later for unknown reason this service was discontinued.
He said when he was Gujarat Chief Minister, number of representations were made by Gujaratis living in Britain in this regard, but he would always show inability to satisfy this demand as he was just a Chief Minister.
He said now when he has become Prime Minister, he is in capacity to announce the direct flight service and it will be effective from 15 December itself.
