Bail plea of jailed PAAS leader Ketan Patel rejected in Sedition case

A local court today rejected the bail plea of Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Ketan Patel in the sedition case lodged by the crime branch against him and five others of the outfit including its self styled convener Hardik Patel.
Crime Branch ACP Rahul Patel said that the sessions court has rejected the bail plea of Ketan in the case. Ketan is currently lodged in jail here with two other accused Dinesh and Chirag Patel.
Hardik is in Lajpore central jail of Surat where another case of sedition for his alleged provoking statement suggesting one of his supporters to kill policemen rather than committing suicide.
Hardik, Dinesh and Chirag has also filed a bail plea in the case in the sessions court which is likely to come up for hearing on Friday.
PAAS leaders Amul Patel and Alpesh Kathiriya are the remaining two accused in the case and have got interim relief from arrest by the Gujarat High Court which has kept its verdict reserved on a petition demanding quashing of the charges.
The case has been filed under Section 121 of the IPC (for waging war against the state), Section 124A (for sedition) and Section 153 (causing enmity between two communities) on the basis of the telephone intercepts of the PAAS leaders during the outfit’s pro-reservation rally on August 25 here and the widespread violence that erupted after the brief detention of Hardik and his aides the same evening.
