Gujarat govt’s Road Safety Policy aims at reducing mishaps by 50%

With a view to strengthen road safety rules and reduce road accidents, Gujarat Government has formulated a new Road Safety Policy on the directions of Supreme Court and guidelines issued by the Central Government.
As a part of the policy, an expert agency will be recruited to setup a proper structure to suggest ways to effectively implement traffic norms. Besides effective implementation of the rules, policy lays special emphasis on providing immediate and quality medical treatment to victims of road accident. For this purpose, arrangements will be made for air ambulance in special cases. Road Safety Policy also focuses on road safety research and providing road-safety education and training.
Policy aims at reducing number of road accidents by 50 per cent by the year 2020.
Salient features of Road Safety Policy
-Efforts will be made to ensure seamless coordination between Police and RTO
-Expert agency will be appointed to setup a dedicated functional structure for road safety
-A special Road Safety fund will be raised through loan, central government grant or through some government authorized source.
-Guidelines will be released for road-safety design and for effective implementation of road-safety audit.
-An expert agency will be recruited for road-safety research.
-Strong action will be taken against citizens who flout traffic rules.
-Modern technologies like CCTV Surveillance, RFID and GPS will be implemented.
-To ensure immediate assistance to victims of road accidents structure of ambulance, air ambulance, trauma centre and private hospitals will be strengthened.
In the wake of rising road accidents across the country, Gujarat Government has come up with the policy and has taken stringent measures to effectively implement the road-safety rules.
