Two more airports in Gujarat will lose their place on aviation map of India.
Bhavnagar and Porbandar airports will not have single scheduled flight in operation from March 27 when summer schedule of airlines begins.
Jet Airways, which is the only airline which operates a flight each out of Bhavnagar and Porbandar airports to Mumbai has decided to suspend operations during summer schedule from March 27 to October 29, “after a thorough evaluation of its network with a clear focus on route viability and profitability.”
While Bhavnagar flight was direct connection to Mumbai, Porbandar flight was operating via Diu. Due to suspension of Porbandar flight, Diu is now connected only through Air India flight.
Bhavnagar and Porbandar airports will see arrival and departure of only chartered or special flights during this time.
According to Airports Authority of India, both Bhavnagar and Porbandar airports have seen a decline of 26-29% in passenger movement in 2015-16 in comparison to 2014-15 while other smaller airports such as Rajkot, Bhuj and Jamnagar have reported an increase of 3%-10% during the same period.
