April 29, 2016
Gandhinagar
Gujarat BJP president Shri Vijay Rupani today made announcement that the State government will bring ordinance for 10% reservation quota in jobs and education on 1st May which is the foundation day of Gujarat. Existing 49% reservation to SC/ST/OBC will stay protected. 10% EBC will be beyond this existing 49% quota.
The proposed 10% Economic Backward Class(EBC) quota will be available to those who are not covered under existing 49% quota. Those having family income not higher than Rs 6 lakh per year(or say Rs 50,000 per month) will be eligible to benefit from proposed 10% EBC.
Making this announcement at Gujarat BJP headquarters ‘Kamalam’ in Gandhinagar, state president Shri Vijay Rupani said, the state government is ready for eventual legal battle upto the Supreme Court if necessary to implement 10% EBC quota.
If everything goes as per government plan, students in next academic year will get benefit from this quota. Similarly the state government is going to recruit 66,000 in present financial year. Proposed 10% quota will also be effective in these recruitment.
Rupani said all criteria rules including the criteria of merit that are followed in existing reservation categories will also be followed in 10% EBC quota implementation.
The decision was taken in Gujarat BJP core committee meeting attended by Amit Shah, Vijay Rupani, Anandiben Patel, Parshottam Rupala, Bhikhubhai Dalsania, Bhargav Bhatt, Surendra Patel, Nitin Patel, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Shankar Chaudhary.
Rupani said the decision was taken in presence of party’s national president Shri Amit Shah under his guidance. He said the BJP has taken this decision considering the feeling prevailing among people.
