Around 1700 pregnant women today participated in a group yoga session in Rajkot city of Gujarat on the second international day of yoga in an attempt to create a new Guinness World Records of largest prenatal yoga class by breaking the earlier record of China created earlier this month.
Collector Rajkot Vikrant Pandey said that the yoga class was held in an auditorium at Kalavad road under the guidance of a certified yoga trainer from Hardwar.
‘We had taken all the prior approvals from the Guinness World Records administration for the event and the video and other documents have been sent to them for the acceptance process. Every thing has gone smoothly and as planned and once approved we would get a certificate as the new record holder. As per the norms all the participants were having pregnancy of 12 weeks or above. The minimum period required for the session was 30 minutes but we conducted the session for 47 minutes,’ the collector said.
The current record of largest prenatal yoga class at one place involved 913 participants and was achieved by Dr. Phoenixsun Maternity Hospital (China) in Hefei, Anhui, China on 5 June 2016.
And for the record of multiple venue 1443 women of China gathered in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and five other cities across China last year and simultaneously practised group yoga under the watchful eye of the instructors, setting the new world record for the Largest prenatal yoga class (multiple venues).
