July 12, 2016
Ahmedabad, Corrspondant: AICC general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Gujarat Gurudas Kamat today said that the party would complete the selection process of its candidates for the next year’s assembly poll in the state by December this year.
Earlier the party during its extended executive meeting held here today which was also attended by Mr Kamat, passed a resolution instructing the aspirants of party ticket to send names and other details including the address and phone numbers of 15 activists from each polling booth of their respective assembly segment before August 31. The resolution also said that as per the directives of party vice president Rahul Gandhi, the executive meetings of the party organization should be held every month and those party officials and executive members who don’t appear in such three consecutive meets would be removed from their positions.
Later, talking to the media persons Mr Kamat said that the high command has agreed in principle to provide at least one year time to the candidates for preparing for the polls to be held for 182 member assembly. ‘For that we will complete their selection process by the end of December this year. The resolution passed today has begun the formal procedure in that direction,’ he said.
Earlier total five resolutions including the above mentioned one, were passed in the meeting which was also attended among others by GPCC president Bharatsinh Solanki, leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela and senior party leader Madhusudan Mistry.
Three of the other resolutions were about agitation and opposition of ruling BJP on the issues of price hike and inflation, alleged Rs 10000 crore recruitment scam in government jobs in Gujarat and its alleged attempt to limit the autonomy of the local bodies.
The first one was however about the preparation for the celebration of the birth centenary of the late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi.
Opinion: On previous occasions too, Gujarat Congress has intended to do the same publicly, but somehow it has not been able to announce the names of candidates in advance. While verbal triumph is good, the taste of pudding is in eating. It has to be observed whether Congress can actual do this.
