Over 8,000 medical/dental aspirants appear for NEET- II in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Over 8000 medical and dental aspirants of Gujarat today appeared in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-II (NEET-II) even as over four lakh such aspirants sat in the exam across the nation.
The exam on the instructions of the Supreme court held at over a dozen centers in select four cities (Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara) across the state including Kendriya Vidyalaya Shahibaug and Cantonment here in Ahmedabad. The three hour duration entrance test consisted of one paper containing 180 objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) from physics, chemistry and biology (botany & zoology) to be answered on the specially designed machine-gradable sheet using ball point pen provided at CBSE centre. The test is for the selection of candidates for various medical and dental courses like Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). NEET II was held at centers across 80 cities all over the country.
Amid confusion and chaos over the status of the exam, over 15000 students of Gujarat had appeared in NEET-I, held on May 1.
Later over 60000 students of the state appeared for Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET) in May itself.
On July 19, Lok Sabha had passed the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill 2016 and the Dentists (Amendment) Bill 2016 to replace the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) ordinance promulgated earlier this year to give relief to states for this year.
This year, the state boards have been exempted from NEET All private medical colleges will come under the new system. 16 states have chosen for State Boards examinations and 15 states have opted for NEET
The final results for NEET will be released on August 17. The counselling session for the NEET candidates would begin from August 18 till September 30.
